William Hodges was an artist who accompanied James Cook on his second voyage of Pacific exploration between 1772 and 1775. As a consequence of his work on the voyage, and the paintings produced on his return, he became one of the most celebrated painters of the age. This well illustrated collection of essays was published to accompany the exhibition of his work at the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, London.
