Barry O’Donnell.

Tells the fascinating and frustrating story of the Nelson Section NZR, and of the men and women who worked on the line. Always intended to form part of the South Island network, the Nelson line was never connected, despite repeated promises by successive Governments. The first section opened in Nelson in 1876, and over the next 40 years the railway was gradually extended south to reach Glenhope, and briefly beyond to Kawatiri. However no further progress was ever made, and after 80 years, the isolated line was closed in 1955. Profusely illustrated.
