A history of the garden at Monk’s House in Sussex, UK, that was developed by the celebrated writers Virginia and Leonard Woolf. They bought the house in 1919 and gradually created a unique and intimate garden from the overgrown land behind the building. The book includes extracts from their letters and diaries concerning the garden, and also contemporary photographs of them there. Virginia died in 1941 and Leonard in 1969. The house and garden are now owned by the National Trust. The story is complemented by the fine modern photographs of Caroline Arber. A large heavy book.
