Franz Bauer (1758-1840) is widely regarded as the greatest of all botanical artists. He was born in Austria and worked for fifty years at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew. Here are sixty three fine full page reproductions of almost all of his completed orchid paintings that exemplify is artistic skill. The orchids are European species as well as introductions from North America, Australia and the Tropics. There is also a biography of Bauer by a distinguished botanical historian.
