Marjouram arrived in New Zealand in 1855. He was a non-commissioned officer in the Royal Artillery. He served in the first Taranaki War of 1860-61 until his medical evacuation to Britain. During his time in New Zealand he kept a fascinating diary recording his life as a soldier and lay preacher on the colonial frontier, this is an edited version. Illustrations.
