Bickerton established the 20 acre Wainoni Park in eastern Christchurch in the 1880s. It was open to the paying public and he staged numerous idiosyncratic events there. Notably there was a zoo, a formal garden and a pond on which were staged mock sea battles. Nothing now remains the whole site being built over.
