This substantial book contains detailed and uniform descriptions of 300 native birds, including those naturalised and also those extinct. The introduction includes an interesting history of ornithological discovery in New Zealand. This was the first reference book on the subject since Buller’s Birds of fifty years earlier, and it is a milestone in New Zealand natural history publishing. The distinguished author was director of the Dominion Museum and an ornithologist of some note. Photographs and six colour plates. First edition. Scarce title in this condition.
