This historical work set out a chromatic catalogue of the natural world with standard colours for the use of botanists, zoologists, artists and others. This new edition matches the original swatches with nineteenth century depictions of the referenced species. An expert text explains the uses and development of colour standards in relation to the natural world. A remarkable and very beautiful book.
