William Hooker 1779-1832 was perhaps the finest painter of fruit during the golden age of botanical illustration. Soon after it was founded, the Horticultural Society of London, later the Royal Horticultural Society, commissioned him to paint and describe about 150 of the most attractive and  interesting varieties of fruit then being cultivated. Here for the first time nearly 100 of his best paintings have been beautifully reproduced in full colour. A large book.
