Brenda McLean.

Scotsman George Forrest, 1873-1932, was one of the most intrepid and successful plant hunters of the twentieth century. He first went to China in 1904, to the then remote Sino Himalayan region, and over the ensuing years he collected over 31,000 herbarium specimens and introduced hundreds of new plants to cultivation in Europe, especially Rhododendrons. This account draws on Forrest’s own letters and those of contemporaries to describe his travels and sometimes dangerous adventures, and reveals his rivalry with fellow plant hunters Reginald Farrer and Frank Kingdon Ward. He died in 1932 and was buried in China. Many fine illustrations including photographs made by Forrest himself. A large heavy book.
