A pioneering and well known history of the remote Fiordland sound and of the first European exploration and meeting with Maori in the area. Cook visited the sound in the Resolution in 1773 and the expedition naturalists, Johann and George Forster collected many plants and other natural history specimens in the area. They described 38 new species of birds here. The authors also tell the subsequent story of the sound including the sojourn of the naturalist Richard Henry. Illustrations. An outstanding book.
