Selection and commentary by William Wheeler.
Maurice Verneuil was an early twentieth century French designer who worked in the then fashionable Art Nouveau style. In 1908 he published The Study of the Plant and its Applications in Art Industries. In this work he interpreted garden flowers, wildflowers and aquatic plants for their decorative potential for wallpapers, textiles, ceramics, glass, wood and metalwork. In this book 180 of these beautiful botanical designs are reproduced in colour.
