An interesting history of the nineteenth century collection formed by Edward Hitchcock at Amhurst College, Massachusetts, USA. This natural history collection is known primarily for its numerous sets of fossil dinosaur footprints. Hitchcock himself believed that ancient birds had made the tracks despite the contrary opinions of British palaeontologists. Discovery of Moa remains in New Zealand helped support his erroneous bird theory. Also includes a photo essay of other natural history specimens in the modern museum.
