Ferdinand Bauer made these astonishingly beautiful and scientifically accurate drawings when he accompanied Mathew Flinders on the Investigator voyage of discovery and circumnavigation of Australia in 1802-03. The 65 plates of plants, birds and animals published here are in the collection of the Natural History Museum in London. Bauer is regarded as one of the finest botanical artists in history. The book was published to coincide with an exhibition of the work of Bauer in Sydney, 1997-98.
