Sir Peter Smithers created four great gardens in his life, reaching maturity with that at Vico Morcote in Switzerland where, over a quarter century, he designed an ecosystem of exotics replete with magnolias, rhododendrons, camellias and tree peonies. The garden eventually contained more than ten thousand species and varieties of plant. This book is his reflections on the place and meaning of gardening in his life, and is illustrated with sixty pages of colour photographs of plants, all of which were grown and photographed by Smithers himself. Heavy cream paper makes this a particularly attractive publication. A large heavy book.
