A tribute to the men, and some of their wives, who built the Milford Road and the Homer Tunnel in the 1930s. The were mostly victims of the Depression directed to the job by the Government. The author was the paymaster who travelled backwards and forwards from Invercargill with the pay. Many historic black and white photographs. First published in 1975, this is the fourth revised and enlarged edition.
